Early cloud and rain over northern Scotland spreads southwards reaching Northern Ireland and far northern England this afternoon. Sunny spells and showers follow into northern Scotland. Elsewhere, fairly cloudy but mainly dry with a few sunny spells. Breezy.

Tonight:

Evening cloud and rain over southern Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England moves south reaching Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia. Clearer skies follow. Cold in the north.

Friday:

Early cloud and patchy rain over southern UK becomes confined to the far south of England later. Otherwise, dry with sunny periods and cooler than today in the north.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

After a cold start for many turning widely milder, windier and unsettled. Rain mainly affecting the north and west over the weekend, then much of the UK on Monday.
