UK Weather: Potential for travel chaos as Storm Arwen batters the north - snow to come this weekend

Today:

Rain clearing south, then colder with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers, wintry on hills. Becoming very windy across western and northern areas, with stormy conditions for parts of north and east Scotland with some heavy snow for high ground.

Tonight:

Very windy, with particularly stormy for eastern Scotland and north-east England for a time. Areas of rain, sleet and snow, mainly hills, moving south, turning showery in north and west.

Saturday:

Winds slowly easing, with further rain and hill snow in the east. Sunny spells further north and west, along with some wintry showers.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Many places cold but dry on Sunday and Monday with overnight frost, locally severe. Turning milder from the west by Tuesday with some rain and stronger winds.
