The Met Office issued a yellow warning for the country, explaining that the winds are expected to cause wide disruption.

They said that Britons in areas hit are likely to see travel delays, loss of power and the cancellation of a number of services.

Mobile phone coverage is also expected to diminish and buildings could be damaged.

Advising people on how they can prepare and stay safe during the extreme weather the Met Office said drivers should allow more time when travelling and keep a look out for more vulnerable people.

They also told people to stay indoors and avoid walking close to buildings incase they are hit by debris.

The north of England is also expected to see some of the bad weather.

The Met Office said: “A deep area of low pressure is expected to pass to the north of Scotland later on Tuesday, clearing away to the east during Wednesday.

“It is likely to bring a spell of strong and gusty winds to much of Scotland and northern England.
