illionCristiano Ronaldo produced a blunder in his opening press conference as an Al Nassr player by confusing Saudi Arabia for South Africa.
The legendary striker, who recently departed Man United, spoke to the media following his move to the Middle East.
“It’s not the end of my career to come to South Africa,” he said, speaking in front of a backdrop proclaiming “Saudi welcome to Arabia”.
Saudi officials did not seek to correct the Portuguese forward who represents the most illustrious acquisition yet for their football league.
Ronaldo is reported to be earning an annual salary of $200million (£177million), a sum that is believed to make him the world’s highest-paid footballer.

The striker, who has amassed an incredible 819 goals at club and international level during his career, looked to justify his decision to depart Europe by saying his “work is done” in the continent.
He said: “I am so proud at making this big decision in my life and my career.
“My work in Europe is done. I played for all the most important clubs. I had many opportunities in Europe. Many clubs in Brazil, Australia, in the US and even Portugal.
“For me this is a good chance with my knowledge and experience to grow very important clubs.
“I want to help many different points and the Al-Nassr’s woman’s team. I want to change the perspective of many people.”
Ronaldo has won five Ballon D’ors, but suffered a difficult 2022, falling out of favour at Erik Ten Hag’s Man United and being dropped to the bench by Portugal during their failed quest for World Cup glory.
The Saudi fans did not appear put off by the footballing megastar’s gaffe, and are expected to pack out the 30,000 capacity Mrsool Park for his unveiling.
