Boosters jabs looked inevitable, 'that's why I asked Downing Street where their plan was three months ago'

First the JCVI will hold a press conference from Downing Street at 1130 this morning on booster jabs.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid will then speak about the toolkit in the round in the Commons at 12:30

And finally the Prime Minister from Downing Street at around 4pm will set out what is being dubbed as a 'winter toolbox' to combat Covid - and avoid any more lockdowns.

The centrepiece of this toolbox is a booster jabs programme for the over 50s, something I asked the Prime Minister about three months ago.

Nice to see it's finally coming about.

Other elements of the toolbox are said to include the option of extending mask mandates, and potentially even vaccine passports.

I have to say we have been embarrassingly slow on this. The news that vaccine choice will be offered to over 12s was blindingly obvious to anyone who could see what was happing in the rest of the world over the summer.

Boosters too looked inevitable, that's why I asked Downing Street where their plan was three months ago.
