It was clear from yesterday’s engagements that there is huge support for the Prince and Princess of Wales in the United States.

Americans travelled from as far as Alaska to see the royal couple at Boston City Hall, where Prince William told the crowd why he’s so pleased the city is hosting his second environmental Earthshot Prize.

Prince William said: “Sixty years ago, President John F. Kennedy’s ‘Moonshot’ speech laid down a challenge to American innovation and ingenuity.

“‘We choose to go to the moon’, he said, ‘not because it is easy but because it is hard.’

“It was that Moonshot speech that inspired me to launch the Earthshot Prize with the aim of doing the same for climate change as President Kennedy did for the space race.“

One lady, who had waited hours to catch a glimpse of the royal couple, told me “I like his mental health initiative, I like his homeless work, I like his green work.”

Despite another royal race row and the torrential rain quite literally dampening the day, there was an overwhelmingly warm welcome from the city of Boston.

The Prince and Princess of Wales sat court-side to watch a basketball game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.

I was sat a few rows behind them, and I heard sports fans cheer when their attendance was announced.

Yes - there were a few isolated boos, but I think perhaps this can be dismissed as harmless sporting banter.

Will and Kate’s engagements today are about spending time in communities and with local people across Boston.

I understand the Prince and Princess were keen to spend to meet the local communities as well as see and hear some of the incredible work being done around climate change and the environment.
