Cases involving cruelty to animals are handled by the RSPCA, who confirmed they were looking into the tragic slaying of the dog in Hull.

A Yorkshire terrier has reportedly been stabbed to death at a residential address in Hull.

Humberside Police and the RSPCA are looking into the matter which took place at an address in the north of the city.

Hull Live reported a woman had been arrested in relation to the incident, though the RSPCA have not confirmed whether there has been a prosecution or not.

Cases involving cruelty to animals are handled by the RSPCA, who confirmed they were looking into the tragic slaying of the dog in Hull.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “The RSPCA received a report of a distressing incident involving a dog which was stabbed to death in Hull.

“We are now looking into this, however, we cannot discuss incidents about specific people and what action may have been taken.

"We understand how frustrating that is for animal lovers but releasing information could prejudice a future prosecution or could lead to us being fined.

“We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always look into and, if necessary, investigate any complaints made to us about animal welfare.”

A system of financial penalties of up to £5,000 for animal health and welfare offences was recently passed in the House of Commons.

The Animals (Penalty Notices) Bill cleared parliamentary hurdles as it received an unopposed third reading following support from across the House of Commons earlier this month.

Conservative Andrew Rosindell told MPs a new system of fines to deter animal abuse will “make a real difference to the lives of animals and help promote greater understanding of welfare”.
