After the greeting, Cruise offered to hold Kate's hand as they walked up the steps to the premiere.

The offer was accepted by the Duchess, who gave him her hand while walking alongside Prince William.

The actor was not seen bowing to the royal couple, as the traditional royal protocol suggests he should.

According to protocol, Cruise should have instead bowed his head to show respect to the monarchy.

It comes just over a week after William broke royal protocol himself to give an overwhelmed royal fan a big hug.

On a two-day visit to Scotland, the Duke and Duchess were greeted by crowds outside Cambridge.

When seeing an overwhelmed pensioner crying due to meeting him, William gave him a warm embrace.
