Toddler dies and mum in critical condition after being trampled by giraffe

A toddler has died and her mum in a critical condition after they were tramped by a giraffe.

The incident took place at the Kuleni Game Park in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on Wednesday afternoon, a police spokesperson has said.

Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said: "The 25-year-old mother and her 16-month-old child were at Kuleni Farm in Hluhluwe when they were trampled by a giraffe.

“The child was taken to the nearest doctor's room where she died and the mother was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

“She is reported to be in a critical condition.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” she told News24.

The Kuleni park is home to an abundance of “timber structured lodges that offer absolute luxury in the bush.”
