Mr MacVittie passed away from an unknown cause at a hospital in New York City

Bruce MacVittie, an actor who starred in the popular US television series' The Sopranos and Law & Order, has died aged 65.

Mr MacVittie's wife Carol Ochs confirmed the tragic news.


Ms Ochs told the New York Times that the actor passed away from an unknown cause at a hospital in New York City on May 7.

Actor Evan Handler said: "I met Bruce MacVittie more than forty years ago.

"We worked and played together repeatedly, as actors, and as friends, throughout the ensuing decades."

While Law & Order franchise producer Warren Leight added: “We’ve worked together often. He was a beautiful, honest actor and man. The real deal."

Actress June Diane Raphael also tweeted: "Bruce was the first working actor I knew in NYC.

"He was so encouraging of me and @caseyrosewilson and I'm so profoundly sorry for his wife and daughter."
