Police were called to the scene of the crash in Newham at around 1.35pm on Monday

A teenage girl has died after her e-scooter collided with a van in east London on Monday afternoon.

Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of the crash on Green Street, Newham, at approximately 1.35pm.

Members of the London Ambulance Service also attended the scene and attempted to treat the girl, who police believed was 14 years old, but she died of her injuries.

Police say their investigations continue, while the van driver is with police, but he has not been arrested.

Disruption continues in the area, with road closures in place around the scene.

The Met has urged any witnesses or anyone with information to contact 101.

E-scooter crashes rose by almost 2,800 percent in London during the first half of 2021 compared to the entirety of 2018, figures released earlier this year have showed.

There were 258 incidents in the first six months of last year compared to nine throughout 2018, the data shows.
