Operators of the Tyne and Wear Metro in the North East have warned users to not travel as services remain suspended due to Storm Arwen.

In a tweet they said services were suspended due to the storm, and they were still continuing to assess the network for damage and debris on the tracks.

They advised they were working hard to try reintroducing a service gradually but warned it would take some time.

Last night trees had been blown onto the line and engineers had been working through the night to clear them.

Transport services in Scotland have also been thrown into chaos and motorists advised not to travel as Storm Arwen battered parts of the country.
