Sir Tom Jones has shared an update with fans after they shared their growing concern surrounding his health after his recent surgery.

The Welshman had already gone under the knife five years ago to have his left hip replaced five years ago, but was told by doctors that he should also have surgery on his right hip as it had been causing him issues.

Sir Tom has been spotted in public and at his own concerts recently using a walking stick to help him, as well as sitting down during performances.

Sir Tom spoke openly at a recent press conference in which he shared: “I’ve got to have a new hip.

“I had my left hip done five years ago and it worked great, so now my right hip is starting to go – wear and tear! So at the moment, I’m bone on bone. That’s what the fella [doctor] told me.”

Taking to Twitter yesterday evening, he said: “Papa has two new hips now!

“For all those concerned and sent in well wishes, I am pleased to report my recent surgery went very well, I’m following orders and doing my physio, so happy to say I will be back soon!”

Fan were elated and shared their relief that the operation had gone smoothly.

One user, Rhonda Sorrow replied: “So very happy that your surgery went well! Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! Can’t wait to see you back on stage moving those new hips!!”

Another, Helen Ketcham, said: “Thanks for the update! I saw you in Los Angeles (bucket list!) and it was a fabulous, upbeat show even with you seated, but I'm very happy to hope you will soon be pain-free and continuing to do the work you were put here to do.”
