Sir Iain Duncan Smith has spoken to GB News after Sir David Amess MP was stabbed several times, saying "I pray for David and his family very much now and I pray for our system frankly, we cannot lose that".

The former Conservative party leader said "it was shocking news".


Sir Iain Duncan Smith said "He was stabbed by someone with a sword".

Conservative MP Sir David Amess has been stabbed several times at a surgery in his Southend West constituency, according to reports.

A man has been arrested after Conservative MP Sir David Amess was reportedly stabbed several times at a surgery in his Southend West constituency.

The 69-year-old was attacked on Friday at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.

In an update, Former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith later responded to the death of Sir David Amess on Twitter: “Shocked to hear my long time good friend/colleague has died as a result of a desperate attack in his surgery doing what all MPs have a duty to do: looking out for their constituents often as a last hope when all else has failed.

“My prayers go out to his family RIP #SirDavidAmess.”
