The quizmaster said, 'I'm dark, I'm proud, I'm black and I destroy people will my intellect'.

Shaun Wallace, 61, has defended his nickname the 'Dark Destroyer' on The Chase after it was discussed as being inappropriate on Twitter.

Wallace was named the Dark Destroyer in 2009 when he joined the show hosted by Bradley Walsh. He has been part of the show since it originally aired and remains a Chaser today.

"For me I have no issues with the term Dark Destroyer.

"I'm dark, I'm proud, I'm black and I destroy people will my intellect." he told the Express.

His nickname on the show has been frowned upon in previous times, most recently by lawyer Paula Rhone-Adrien on Lorraine last year.

Ms Rhone-Adrien revealed she wouldn’t allow her child to watch the show as Shaun was ‘the only Chaser defined by the colour of his skin’.

Nav commented on Ms Rhone-Adrien comments saying: "lorraine Have been saying for ages, why does ITVChase's @TheShaunWallace have to be the only Chaser defined by their skin colour.

"None of the others are - this needs to change. Completely agree with FamilyLawGuruUK."

Wallace replied to the comment: "But I’m not defined by the colour of my skin. I’m black who intellectually destroys contestants."

Recently Wallace has clarified that he is still proud of his name and that he has no issues with the term.

Viewers soon reached out to Shaun on Twitter to get his feelings on the topic, the barrister clarified that he had no issue with the nickname.
