Schoolgirl, 12, dies after being hit by van moments after stepping off bus

A 12-year-old girl has died after being struck by a van as she was getting off a bus in Liverpool.

Lexi McDavid, from Huyton, Merseyside, was hit by a white Mercedes on Princess Drive at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, June 7.

The young girl died a short time after being admitted to Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Merseyside Police said the van driver remained at the scene and assisted the officers with their investigation.

Det Sgt Andy Roper said: "Our thoughts and condolences are very much with the family of Lexi, who has lost her life at a tragically young age, and they are receiving the support of specialist officers."

On Facebook, hundreds of tributes have poured in as many look to send their condolences to the family.

Marie Lythgoe said: So tragic RIP Lexie, heaven's gained a special angel. Condolences to all family & friends. God bless."

Andy Roper from the Merseyside Police has urged anyone with any information relating to the incident to come forward, urging them to do so "as soon as possible".

“An investigation is ongoing and we’d ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on dashcam or other devices and has yet to come forward does so as soon as possible.

"Your information could be vital to our investigation.

“Whether you come to us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, all information will be acted upon.”
