Tim Cross admitted he was "genuinely surprised" by Russia's slow progress towards Kyiv

Russia may have “burnt up” a lot of its logistics in the exercise missions before it launched an invasion on Ukraine, military logistics expert, Tim Cross has told GB News.

The war entered its twelfth day on Monday, with Russian air strikes continuing to be heard and seen across several Ukrainian regions.

But its attempted capture of the capital, Kyiv has been much harder than expected with Ukrainian’s continuing to hold firm.

Speaking on Brazier, Mr Cross admitted he has been surprised by Russia's slow progress, adding that its pre-invasion tactics may have caused the delays.

When put to him that the Russian logistical situation doesn’t look great, Mr Cross replied: “No it doesn’t and if I’m honest I don’t know why that is so, I’m genuinely very surprised.

“They obviously had a long period of exercises before the invasion, and it may well be that they burnt up quite a lot of their logistics.

“But they went in expecting a relatively quick and easy success in the east, particularly in the link up to Crimea. Put Kyiv under pressure and then there would be some sort of agreement but that hasn’t happened.

He added: “When you go into a country like this on a military operation you take with you your first line stocks, your food, ammunition and fuel which for the British army is about five days worth or so.

“Behind that you have second line stocks carried by specific logistic capabilities and it may well be they didn’t have those close enough to the forward troops and have been unable to get them through, we’ve seen this lock jam of convoy in Kyiv.

“It’s quite clear that their logistics has not been good.”
