The actor was charged over £228 after being forced to quarantine

Actor Richard E. Grant took to social media to complain about his quarantine experience after being caught out by the latest Covid measures.

The star had been to visit his 90-year-old mother in southern Africa, but arrived back in England after the Government introduced strict travel restrictions following the Omicron variant outbreak.

Taking to Twitter, Richard E. Grant said: “I understand stand that there are security costs in the hotel and you’ve got to pay for two Covid tests, but £228 a day a to receive three meals a day of this very poor standard in a supposed four star Holiday Inn hotel beggars belief!”

The Withnail and I actor shared a picture of one of his meals, and questioned the cost.

“In quarantine at Gatwick 4* Holiday Inn (under reconstruction) charged £228 per day. These 3 meals amount to approx £20. Non quarantine Holiday Inn nearby costs £89 incl breakfast. How does Gov justify this cost to a traveller for ‘hospitality’. You do the maths as am confounded!”

Some of his 278,000+ following tweeted messages of support, saying it was “ridiculous” and that there were “some truly terrible profiteering from what is a bad situation.”

Policing minister Kit Malthouse was less than impressed with the actor’s plight, telling LBC he should “take it up with the chefs”.
