The rollout comes following a pilot scheme at two stores but important rules still apply

Behemoth retailer Wilko has this week announced a big change for customers in their stores.

As of this week, anyone with a dog will now be able to bring it into a store.

Wilko which prides itself as a one-stop-shop for household needs, has 400 stories across the UK.

The rollout comes following a pilot scheme at two stores but important rules still apply.

Dogs must be kept on leads and will be able to browse all areas of stores, apart from food aisles.

Good dogs will only be allowed in 248 Wilko stores, with signs at store entrances making it clear as to whether your pet is allowed, Wilko say staff members would be more than happy to answer any queries.

Service and guide dogs remain welcome at all their stores nationwide.

The announcement was made on the Wilko Facebook page but opinion has been split.

More than 10,000 people have commented and over 8,000 have shared the post, but not everyone is happy about the news.

Kevin said: “It’s a nice gesture, but not everyone likes dogs, even well behaved ones. As a child, I was terrified of them.”

Jenny said: “Not a good move for people with allergies.”

Tricia said: “Don’t put anything on the bottom shelves then as they will get peed on!”

However a number of people left positive comments as well, Jan said: “Brilliant wish all shops would do this.”

Katrina said: “This is fantastic! Because of the bad world we live in you can no longer tie dogs up Outside.”
