Dame Jane Goodall says Harry had hopes of raising his son on the continent, along with wife Meghan Markle

Prince Harry hoped to bring Archie up "running barefoot in Africa", a source close to the royal has claimed.

Dame Jane Goodall says Harry had hopes of raising his son on the continent, along with wife Meghan Markle.

She states: ”‘He wanted to bring Archie up in Africa, running barefoot with African children.”

The Sunday Times revealed in 2019 that plans had courtiers had drawn up a plan to give the Duke and Duchess a major international role that would have seen them move abroad following the birth of Archie.

Harry and Meghan now also have a daughter, Lilibet, who is 17-months old.

The couple were reportedly earmarked for roles that would have most likely been carried out in Africa.

The jobs would have seen the Duke and Duchess carrying out duties promoting the Commonwealth with charity work and a role promoting the UK.

Ex-British Ambassador to the US Sir David Manning is believed to be the individual who was behind the plans.

The scheme was later scuppered when the couple opted to step back from royal duties and move to North America.

Highly lucrative deals that the couple have secured since with Netflix and Spotify would have been hard to come by had the couple moved to Africa.

Harry's fondness of the continent is well publicised and he has visited on several occasions.

Meghan also has affinity for Africa, revealing on her Archetypes podcast last month that a genealogy test had revealed her ancestry was 43 per cent Nigerian.

In an interview with The Times, Dame Jane Goodall, a friend of the couple spoke about "not talking about" the couple.

“I don’t talk about them now. Of course I have my views and I think Harry cares, I really think he does", she said.

"My times that I talked with him I just felt that he was a really nice, good person. He wanted to bring Archie up in Africa, running barefoot with African children.”
