Travellers took to social media to hit out at delays they were suffering on their journeys as a result of the incident.
One person wrote on Twitter: “People going to Gatwick Airport North Terminal, be warned total chaos due to an incident one person detained, no one able to drop off or pick up due to cordon in place.”
While another added: "incident? No shuttles from south to North Terminal?
"Lots of concerned people queued up here, no officials in sight. Please inform us."
A third person said: "How do I make it to North Terminal to get my flight? Are flights being delayed if you’ve stopped passengers getting there?"
