'Peppa Pig is one part of the propaganda of the dominant culture'

Vegan campaigner Pamela Nova has created a cartoon where famed children’s character Peppa Pig is sent to the abattoir.

The gruesome and harrowing story is Pamela Nova’s way of raising awareness of the suffering faced by animals in the meat production industry.

In the story, plucky little Peppa goes on a trip and readers are asked to guess where they think the animated walking bacon sandwich could be going.

It turns out that Peppa was headed to a slaughterhouse on the outskirts of Bristol.

“It’s interesting how in children’s stories about animals they are all cute and lovely when the reality of a pig’s life is one of mutilation," Pamela told Bristol Live.

“Peppa Pig is one part of the propaganda of the dominant culture."

The Tulip slaughterhouse had not commented on the situation when approached by Bristol Live, with them previously saying "the welfare of animals is always of the highest importance to us".

Ms Nova claimed on a previous visit to an abattoir that she could hear the screams of pigs.

As a previous campaigner with the organisation ‘Animal Save’ which originated in Canada, she has now been working on setting up her own groups and campaigns.

Peppa Pig had recently been involved in controversy after Prime Minister Boris Johnson raised a visit to Peppa Pig World during a chaotic speech to the CBI late last year.
