Migrants crossing British waters continues to rise as 800 intercepted in one day

Local sources have told GB News that more than 800 migrants were intercepted in at least thirty separate incidents throughout the day

UK authorities are involved in two ongoing rescues of migrants in the English Channel, on a day where more than 800 people have been intercepted in British waters.

The Dover Lifeboat was called to reports this evening of a small boat in difficulties in the channel around 10 miles off St Margaret’s Bay.


GB News understands around 30 people are believed to be onboard that boat.

At the same time, the lifeboat from Dungeness was called to another incident further west, about 10 miles off Hastings.

A small boat carrying at least 35 people, including some women and children is involved. A Coastguard helicopter has also been sent to the scene.

Local sources have told GB News that more than 800 migrants were intercepted in at least thirty separate incidents throughout the day.

Two days of better weather conditions in the Channel have seen a surge in small boat crossings.

On Tuesday, 456 people were intercepted on 15 separate boats in British waters.French authorities also stopped 7 boats from reaching the UK, returning 343 migrants to France.

Tuesday’s interceptions on the British side of the Channel took the number of migrants who have crossed in small boats this year to 20,248.

The operations to intercept more than 30 small boats today have tipped that figure over 21,000.
