Police are investigating the gathering in the Cabinet Room in No 10 on Boris Johnson’s birthday in 2020, Sue Gray’s update on her inquiry suggests.

The PM is alleged to have had cake with staff for his birthday, while the rest of the nation was locked down.

The report says there were "serious failures" that took place that enabled the parties in Downing Street to take place while Covid restrictions were in place.

However there were several details missing from the report.

Ms Gray's report doesn't say explicitly whether Covid rules were broken, nor does it name any officials or staffers involved.

None of the evidence uncovered was disclosed in the report, nor were specifics about what actually happened in No 10.

Boris Johnson is due to address parliamentarians at 3:30 today.

The PM left No 10 to face MPs with a blank expression and answered no questions before he was driven away.
