The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's security needs will always be "much more complex" than other royals, a commentator claims

A royal expert has warned how Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's security situation remains more complex than other family members due to one contributing factor.

Commentator Daniela Elser believes this is due to the fact the Sussexes are the only branch of the monarch's family to include a person of colour.

Ms Elser said "the Windsors may not be in contention for family of the year" but claimed that they are not "so cold-blooded" they would wish for harm to come to the Duke and his family.

The royal expert added in her piece for the New Zealand Herald: "Likewise surely (hopefully) everyone involved in the decision-making about their protection would be cognisant of the very horrible fact that the Sussexes' security needs, as the only branch of the Queen's family to include a person of colour, are sadly always going to be much more complex than that of, for example, Princess Anne."

Despite being a full-time working member of the Royal Family, Anne only receives protection when she's working on official duties.

Meghan and Harry lost their taxpayer-funded security after leaving their roles as official working members of the Royal Family in 2020.

The Royal Family splashes out around £100million a year to protect is members.

Princess Diana's former security guard, Ken Wharfe, stated that a personal protection officer is usually paid £100,000 per year.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in the UK last month, ahead of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Arriving on a private jet from their Californian home, the couple were transported by bullet-proof cars.

These were sent by the Queen, to their Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage.

The couple reportedly hired Michael Jackson's former bodyguard to lead their new security team, due to ongoing safety concerns.
