Meghan Markle opens her latest Spotify podcast by saying: “When I was 14, I planned my wedding"

The Duchess of Sussex’s latest Archetypes podcast episode has been released on Spotify.

It begins with Meghan saying: “When I was 14, I planned my wedding. Not my actual wedding, that would have been a bit harder to imagine.”

The Duchess describes how it was a religious studies assignment at her Catholic school and how she wanted her wedding to be in the Bel Air hotel.

She also wanted a “Swan Lake” and said “oh my goodness, the dress, strapless and pouffy and I’d seen it in a bridal magazine”.

Meghan continues: “I took this project seriously, I wanted to get an A. And I did. Maybe I got an A minus."

She questioned why the assignment had even existed, saying: “At no point can you say ‘Nope. My dream for the future is to be single’.

“The message even at my feminist all-girls school was as traditional as it gets. First comes love. Then comes marriage.”

In the episode, Meghan speaks with actress Mindy Kaling about the joys, challenges and stigmas of being a single, unmarried woman.

It comes after the Duchess faced backlash for appearing to talk about herself more than equality in a Manchester speech on Monday.

Prince Harry joined her at the One Young World Summit as the two made their first public appearance in the UK since the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.

But royal commentator Kinsey Schofield was not impressed.

She told GB News viewers: "The irony that, when Meghan Markle is supposed to be giving a speech on equality...

"The UK, you're seeing your third female Prime Minister. It's like: 'We got it, we get this.'

"I didn't hear anything about equality whatsoever. I just heard Meghan talking about Meghan.

"There should have been a focus on spotlighting individuals in the audience who had done unique things. She didn't challenge anybody.

"There were so many routes she could have taken but it seems so fixated on her brand and what people think about her, and how to control the narrative, that she misses huge opportunities to really be this change-maker, this thought-leader that both Harry and Meghan want us to think they are."
