Meghan Markle, who turned 41 on Thursday, has received birthday messages from members of the Royal Family

Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge shared a brief message to wish the Duchess of Sussex a happy birthday on Thursday.

They were joined by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall in extending an olive branch to Meghan.

Accompanied by a photograph of the former Suits actor sporting a beaming smile, Kate and William's tweet read: "Wishing a happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!"

Clarence House shared the same sentiment with a picture of Meghan taken during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The pictures show the Duchess of Sussex during her first and only official appearance in the UK since she broke away from the Royal Family, alongside husband Prince Harry, in 2020.

Alongside Harry, she now lives in Montecito, US, with son Archie and daughter Lilibet after the Sussexes' high-profile exit.

The birthday messages came after royal author Tom Bower claimed the Duchess will have to "realign her image" if she is to take on a more official political role in her home country.

Referring to her and Harry, he claimed: "I think they have to realign their image. "In any case, they are burning their royal status pretty fast now."

Earlier this week, Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr joked on GB News’ Dan Wootton Tonight that he would “move to the UK” if his sister ever formalises a political role.

Dan asked Mr Markle: “When you were growing up with her, did you ever get a sense that she harboured political ambitions?"

Mr Markle replied: “Never, never got a sense that she was after anything political whatsoever, it was always fairy tales and princesses, that’s what she focused on.

“As far as politics go, if that ever happens, I’ll probably move to the UK.”
