Meghan Markle has been accused of posing in an "almost exact replica" of a famous Princess Diana photograph for her latest controversial interview

Meghan stunned the world this week after her jaw-dropping interview with US magazine The Cut was published.

In it, she makes a string of astonishing revelations and piled more pressure on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's already tense relationship with the Royal Family.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond, appearing on GB News' Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel, accused Meghan of "throwing a hand grenade" with her comments.

Ms Bond added that she is "not sure any of the royals really want to see Harry and Meghan at the moment" ahead of their upcoming UK visit.

To this, Eamonn asked whether Ms Bond thought it was "by accident or deliberately planned" that Meghan's interview was released on the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's death.

Ms Bond replied: "I really hesitate to think badly of Meghan and think she could be so scheming...

"But you can't get away from the fact that the photograph of her that was issued is an almost exact replica of Diana on the front cover of Andrew Morton's book, Her True Story.

"And the timing was once again... Well, it could be coincidental but I'm afraid it probably wasn't.

"It was most unfortunate, is the kindest thing I can think to say."

In the picture of Meghan released this week, taken by Campbell Addy, she can be seen posing in a dress featuring a black turtleneck.

She is sat down with her legs side-on as her upper body turns towards the lens and her eyes look directly at the camera.

Diana, meanwhile, is sat in a very similar fashion – also sporting a black turtleneck – and the two royals both have their hands resting on their knee in the same position.

There is no specific mention of Diana, or the anniversary of her death, in Meghan's interview.

Instead, Meghan reflects on what it feels like to be one of the most famous women in the world.

Journalist Allison P Davis writes: "Even if she and Harry have stepped back from their royal duties, Meghan is still very aware that people see her as a princess."

Meghan, expanding on this theme, adds: "It’s important to be thoughtful about it because — even with the Oprah interview, I was conscious of the fact that there are little girls that I meet and they’re just like, ‘Oh my God, it’s a real-life princess.’

“I just look at all of them and think, You have the power within you to create a life greater than any fairy tale you’ve ever read.

"I don’t mean that in terms of ‘You could marry a prince one day.’

"I mean you can find love. You can find happiness. You can be up against what could feel like the greatest obstacle and then you can find happiness again.”
