Meghan Markle has been accused of "throwing a lot of weight onto Prince Harry" when faced with the prospect of being "held accountable"

The Duchess of Sussex has stunned the world with yet another high-profile media interview, in which she offloaded a string of jaw-dropping allegations.

In one standout section, she opened up about her relationship with her dad, Thomas, in a more frank way than perhaps ever before in public.

Meghan drew a direct comparison between her high-profile rift with her dad and husband Prince Harry's now-tense relationship with his dad, Prince Charles.

She said: “Harry said to me, 'I lost my dad in this process'.

“It doesn't have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that's his decision.”

But royal commentator Kinsey Schofield was less than impressed with the Duchess, suggesting that Meghan sometimes talks about Harry and the Royal Family to deflect attention away from her own family struggles.

Appearing on Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel, Kinsey told GB News viewers: "Whenever she is asked about something that forces her to be held accountable, she talks about something else and typically throws a lot of weight onto Prince Harry."

Elsewhere in the interview, Meghan opened up about her and Harry's motives for moving to Montecito, California.

Journalist Allison P Davis wrote: "Even if she and Harry have stepped back from their royal duties, Meghan is still very aware that people see her as a princess."

Meghan, expanding on this theme, added: "It’s important to be thoughtful about it because — even with the Oprah interview, I was conscious of the fact that there are little girls that I meet and they’re just like, ‘Oh my God, it’s a real-life princess.’

“I just look at all of them and think, You have the power within you to create a life greater than any fairy tale you’ve ever read.

"I don’t mean that in terms of ‘You could marry a prince one day.’

"I mean you can find love. You can find happiness. You can be up against what could feel like the greatest obstacle and then you can find happiness again.”

In the interview with US magazine The Cut, Meghan reveals a "top-secret drop" that she plans to return to Instagram.

Ms Davis writes: "In the lull in conversation, Meghan turns to me and leans forward to ask in a conspiratorial hush, 'Do you want to know a secret?'

"Meghan, silenced no more, looks around, making sure nobody (who would be?) is listening in.

"Then the top-secret drop: 'I’m getting back … on Instagram,' she says, her eyes alight and devilish."

A return to social media would be a significant step for Meghan, as she has previously spoken out about staying away.

Appearing at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit in October 2020, she said: "For my own self-preservation, I have not been on social media for a very long time.

"I made a personal choice to not have any account, so I don’t know what’s out there, and in many ways that’s helpful for me."
