Matt Hancock assault: Man arrested after 'harassing' Ex-Tory minister at Westminster tube station
The assault happened yesterday morning at 8:47am at Westminster Underground station
Police have arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting Conservative MP Matt Hancock.
British Transport Police said: “We received a report of a man being assaulted and harassed at Westminster Underground station at 8.47am yesterday morning (January 24).
“A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of common assault and a public order offence and remains in custody. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
A spokesman for Hancock’s said it was an “unpleasant encounter”.
They continued: “Both Transport for London staff and the British Transport Police were fantastic and the man has since been arrested.
"This sort of behaviour is a rare occurrence” and stressed the “importance of shutting down baseless misinformation which causes so much harm”.
“Matt wants to put on record his thanks to TfL and the British Transport Police for their extraordinary work,” the spokesman added.
Last month, the former health secretary said he will not stand for the Conservatives in the next general election.

Hancock was stripped of the Conservative whip after it emerged he was joining the reality TV show I'm a Celebrity, prompting speculation about his political future and whether he would stand again at the next general election in around two years time.
In his letter to Rishi Sunak, he wrote: “I am writing to tell you that I do not intend to stand for the Conservatives at the next General Election.
“I am very grateful for my conversation with the Chief Whip last week, in which he made clear he would restore the whip in due course, but that is now not necessary.
