Chief Inspector of Gloucestershire Police, says 'this was a horrific incident in a quiet residential area'

One man has died and another seriously injured in a series of stabbings near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, on Tuesday evening.

Two men and a woman were attacked in Walton Cardiff as police received reports of a knife attack in the Snowdonia Road and Arlington Road area. A man in his 50s has been arrested.


Chief Inspector Roddy Gosden, of Gloucestershire Police, said: “We understand those who saw what happened will be traumatised and many in the local community will be upset and worried.

“Today and over the next few days local policing team officers will be patrolling the area to listen to people’s concerns, refer people to available support and provide reassurance.

“The man who was arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody at this time.

“We can confirm we are not seeking anyone else in connection with our inquiries.

“Our thanks to those who were first at the scene, including two off-duty police officers who bravely intervened to tackle and restrain the suspect.

“Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the man who died and those who were injured.

“The next of kin are currently receiving support from our family liaison officers.”

Chief Inspector Roddy Gosden said: “Shortly after 5.20pm yesterday we received multiple calls to the area of Snowdonia Road and Arlington Road in Walton Cardiff, near Tewkesbury, with reports of a man having a knife and having injured others.

“One man suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of paramedics and others who helped, he died at the scene.

“A second man suffered serious stab wounds and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

“A woman also suffered a wound to her leg and has been treated at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.”
