London Tube strike: Solid support for longest-ever action – RMT union

Fresh strikes by London Underground drivers in a dispute over the Night Tube have been “solidly supported”, their union has said.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union on the Central and Victoria lines walked out on Friday and Saturday evenings in a row over rosters.

Weekend strikes are planned to be held until June unless the dispute is resolved.

The union has said working practices are being imposed on drivers which would “rip apart” their work/life balance, which LU denies.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “Our members have remained solid and determined in support of the Night Tube action this weekend and have sent out the clearest possible signal that this issue isn’t going away.

“With action scheduled for the next six months there is only one way forward and that’s for serious and genuine talks aimed at a negotiated settlement.”

LU said new rosters include assurances that there will be no job cuts, the option of permanent work for those on part-time contracts, and only scheduling up to four night shift weekends per year.
