London lockdown as police rush to suspicious vehicle near Westminster Abbey

A number of road closures have been enforced while emergency services deal with the incident

Police were in the vicinity of Westminster Abbey as the incident took place.

A number of road closures had been enforced while emergency services dealt with the issue, the City of Westminster Police confirmed.


The police confirmed the incident related to a suspicious vehicle in the area.

The Met Police said they carried out two controlled explosions on a suspicious vehicle near Westminster Abbey as a precautionary measure.

Evacuations were carried out in locations around the Palace of Westminster in London, including the Queen Elizabeth II Centre.

The City of Westminster Police confirmed the incident was stood down at 5pm, following the controlled explosions.

Roads in the area have now reopened and cordons have been lifted.
