The lockdown was due to an unattended item in the vicinity of South Bank

The Metropolitan Police had reported that a number of bridges were closed in central London due to an unattended item in the vicinity of South Bank.

The closed bridges were Westminster Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, as well as Hungerford and Golden Jubilee footbridges.

They now say the unattended item has been assessed and was found not to be suspicious.

Road closures are set to be lifted imminently.

The Police thanked the public for their cooperation.

In a tweet they said: "The unattended item has been assessed and was found not to be suspicious. Road closures will be lifted imminently. We thank the public for their cooperation."
