Five-year-old girl dies as man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

A 63-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the death of a five-year-old girl.

Staffordshire Police said officers were called to the scene on Waterside Drive, Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent at 5.52pm on Friday to reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.

On arrival, police found the girl in cardiac arrest following the collision which involved a grey Volkswagen Touran.

She was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
