Thousands of Facebook users have reported outages as the social networking site appears to be down.

There have been over 3,000 reports of Facebook outages in the last 24 hours, according to the Down Detector website.

Several users have posted on twitter that they are encountering issues accessing Facebook.

Photos of the Facebook website are often showing an error message which says 'sorry, something went wrong'.

The error message adds: "We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."
