The social media influencer and Pretty Little Thing creative director made the comments on the YouTube series 'The Diary of a CEO'

Love Island star, Molly-Mae Hague, has been widely criticised on social media after she made comments about wealth inequality and poverty.

The reality star turned social media influencer was being interviewed on the YouTube show The Diary of a CEO when she made the remarks.

The episode Molly-Mae appeared on was released on December 13, however yesterday a social media storm exploded after a clip from the interview was shared on Twitter.

In the viral segment, Molly-Mae said: 'I just think you’re given one life and it’s down to you what you do with it. You can literally go in any direction.

'When I’ve spoken in the past I’ve been slammed a little bit, with people saying, ‘It’s easy for you to say that, you’ve not grown up in poverty, you’ve not grown up with major money struggles. So for you to sit there and say we all have the same 24 hours in a day is not correct.’

'And I’m like, but technically what I’m saying is correct – we do.

'So I understand we all have different backgrounds and we’re raised in different ways and have different financial situations, but if you want something enough you can achieve it and it just depends to what lengths you want to go to get to where you want to be in the future.'

She went on: 'And I’ll go to any length. I’ve worked my absolute arse off to get where I am now.'

The social media user who posted the clip of Molly-Mae captioned their video, 'If you're homeless just buy a house.'

GB News have contacted Molly-Mae's representatives for comment.

Others were unhappy with the influencer's comments.

One commenter remarked: 'It's insane to think "I just worked harder and therefore I'm rich". Ignorance at best, arrogance at worst.

'There's millions of people in the UK who work harder than her and are struggling financially. And again, to say that during a pandemic with allot of economic hits. Mad.'

In response to this comment, one user agreed saying and claimed: '...This girl has never known struggle.'

Another said: 'We have GOT to stop giving platforms to people like this.'

Another user wrote: 'Her immaturity is showing. If you come from a place of privilege you should work extra hard to educate yourself on the hardships of others.'

The Love Island star began a partnership with fashion brand Pretty Little Thing, becoming creative director in 2021.
