The former US President is reported to have bragged about knowing illicit details about Emmanuel Macron's personal life

Donald Trump boasted to some of his close associates, both during and after his White House tenure, about having "intel" on French President Emmanuel Macron's sex life.

The former US President is said to have bragged about learning illicit details regarding the life of Mr Macron through "intelligence" he had seen or been briefed on, sources told Rolling Stone.

In a raid of Mr Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, a document labelled item 1a is listed solely as “Info re: President of France.”

It is not clear whether documents about Mr Macron were seized by the FBI during a raid of Mr Trump's Mar-a-Lago home had anything to do with the French President's personal life.

It also remains unclear whether the information seized is taken from US intelligence collection or even classified.

The existence of the documents is said to have caused concern among French officials, with Mr Trump's talk of knowing about Mr Macron's “naughty” ways that “[not] very many people know” causing them to work on finding out what exactly Mr Trump had on Mr Macron and the French government.

The officials in both nations wanted to find out if the information was discovered as a result of a national security breach.

A spokesman for the French embassy told Rolling Stone that their inquiry did not include asking the Biden administration for information on the documents seized from Trump's estate.

The former US President has garnered a reputation for peddling gossip, and sources have said that it is difficult to tell whether his claim to have information on Macron's indiscretions is of any substance.

A Trump spokesperson did not respond to Rolling Stone.

The former US President has not always enjoyed a positive relationship with Mr Macron, with tensions between the pair often flaring during Mr Trump's time in the White House.

In 2019, following disagreements between the pair on their respective views on Iran, Syria and NATO, Mr Trump could be heard calling Mr Macron a "pain in the a***" to a White House gathering of international ambassadors to the United Nations.
