Donald Trump's first wife and mum to three of his children has died at the age of 73

Ivana Trump, who married the former US President in 1977, has died.

The couple, who divorced in 1992, had three children together: Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric.

Writing on social media platform Truth Social, Mr Trump said: "I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City."

The Trump family also shared a statement, reading: "Ivana Trump was a survivor.

"She fled from communism and embraced this country.

"She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination."

Ms Trump grew up under communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia.

Neither the Trump family statement nor the post from the former US President mentioned the cause of her death.
