Gord Magill has criticised the decision to bring in a vaccine mandate for Canadian truckers in an exclusive GB News interview

A Canadian truck driver of 25 years has hit out at Prime Minister of the country, Justin Trudeau, in an exclusive interview with GB News.

Gord Magill has criticised the decision made to bring in a vaccine mandate for Canadian truckers.

Thousands have joined protests In Ottawa in a 'Freedom Convoy' that has shown a strong stand against vaccine mandates across the country.

Mr Magill told GB News: "for Trudeau to bring this in at such a late hour, it didn't make sense to anybody.

"It was viewed by myself and many road warriors as nothing more than a punishment for a failure to comply".

The trucker continued, "it has very little to do with science and statistics or Covid rates, so it wasn't taken very well".

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has criticised the protests, describing them as an "an insult to memory and truth".

The convoy began protesting after the Canadian government announced on 15th January that unvaccinated drivers returning from across the US border will have to isolate upon returning home.

Protests against the move have since expanded into calls for vaccine mandates to end nationwide to end.

The scale of the protests have resulted in calls for the military to be deployed in Ottawa, but Prime Minister Trudeau insists that course of action is "not in the cards".

Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly said this week that all options are on the table, including calling in the military, to end the ongoing demonstration that was being called an “occupation” by some on the city council.

Gord Magill, who took part in the Ottawa protests, says they have been "very effective" due to the changes in leadership, after Erin O'Toole was ousted as the leader of the Canadian Conservative Party.

The Canadian trucker told GB News that he was disappointed, due to how Canadian truckers were shown "love" due to being "essential workers" throughout the pandemic, only for a vaccine mandate to be imposed.
