Since Burger King's launch in 1957, the Whopper has been the top item on the menu so says the chain, claiming to sell 2.1bn annually.

The restaurant has launched 'Whopper Day' today and are giving the item out for nothing!

In order to claim a free Whopper, punters need to download the Burger King app. In the app users will be able to claim a voucher to use at any Burger King establishment, with the exception of Burger Kings in service stations, airports, train stations or holiday parks.

The fast food classic is made up of a beef patty, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, pickle, mayonnaise and ketchup, served up in a bun.

However, if you're not a meat eater, you can still claim the plant-based alternative in the same offer.

The Mirror reported that Burger King's Katie Evans said: "This Whopper Day, we hope the nation will join us in enjoying a legendary Whopper."

However, the deal is a one-day only offer.
