The PM warned The Kremlin 'many Russian sons won't be coming home' if an invasion takes place

Boris Johnson, in a statement to the House of Commons, warned Russian leader Vladimir Putin that "many Russian sons won't be coming home" if he orders an invasion of Ukraine.

The Prime Minister told the House: "The British Army leads the NATO battle group in Estonia.

"If Russia invades Ukraine, we [Britain] would look to contribute to any new NATO deployments to protect our allies in Europe."

This comes as President Putin has 100,000 troops stationed on the Russian border with Ukraine.

Chair of Defence Select Committee Tobias Ellwood MP told GB News that an invasion of Ukraine is "imminent" and that western powers had "run out of road" to prevent an incursion.

Western officials have tried to avert any Russian aggression towards Ukraine via a series of diplomatic meetings in Geneva, Vienna and Brussels, but a resolution was not forthcoming.

Mr Ellwood told the House: "The threat of sanctions will no deter this Russian aggression.

"A total or even partial invasion will have severe economic and security consequences felt right across Europe and beyond.

"...where might an emboldened Russia turn to next?

"... it is not too late to mobilise a sizeable NATO presence in Ukraine... to make Putin think twice about invading another European democracy."
