'This has been an unsettling period in Hattie’s life' said an advertisement

For more than 500 days the RSPCA’s Southridge Animal Centre in Potters Bar has been home to two-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Hattie, who has been dubbed Britain’s loneliest dog.

The very good dog arrived at the centre just outside of London almost two years ago after her owner become unable to care for her.

Hattie had been previously adopted from the RSPCA centre, so has not been there for the full 18 months, though sadly it did not work out and she was returned.

An advertisement for Hattie had stated: “This has been an unsettling period in Hattie’s life and it has taken some time for us to gain her trust.

“She will need a calm owner who understands that Hattie does not like too much handling and at times can be unpredictable, especially in the beginning stages whilst she is learning to trust.

“Once she knows you she does enjoy a cuddle and can be affectionate, but she has to trust you first and this can take some time”.

On Friday, a spokeswoman for the RSPCA said that Hattie had been inundated with offers following an appeal to adopt her, and therefore no longer features on their website.
