Boy, 12, dies after car he was driving crashed into lorry

A spokeswoman from Garda said emergency services had been called to the scene of the crash at Rineroe shortly before 2am this morning.

A 12-year-old boy has died when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry in Limerick in the early hours of Friday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident near Adare and was reportedly driving a Nissan Qashqai.

The 40-year-old man who was driving the lorry is understood not to have needed any treatment following the crash, with the 12-year-old boy being the sole passenger in the car.

The scene is being preserved for examination by forensic investigators who specialise in collisions, the Garda are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A plea has been made for any road users that could have dash-cam footage, and were travelling along the N21 near Adare, to make the footage available to Garda.
