10 Downing Street confirms news of a surprise reshuffle

Boris Johnson will carry out a Cabinet reshuffle, a No 10 source told GB News: “The PM will today conduct a reshuffle to put in place a strong and united team to build back better from the pandemic.”

An event that both Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and Trade Secretary Liz Truss were due to attend this afternoon, has been cancelled says the Guido Fawkes website.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid is a relatively recent appointment to Cabinet after Matt Hancock resigned following reports of an affair with an aide, it is not expected that Mr Javid would be moved so quickly.

Ben Wallace will likely feel at least some jitters about his position given recent events in Afghanistan, however, as much of the blame if perceived to lay at the door of President Biden, the Defence Secretary may yet live to see another Cabinet meeting.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has to be fearful about what has certainly not been an A* performance over exams, whether this could open up opportunities for junior ministers in the department, such as Michelle Donelan, remains to be seen.
