Boris Johnson has been attacked with a “confected outrage from Brexit enemies” over his comments on Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking live to GB News, Daily Express columnist Carole Malone said she believes his remarks have been totally misconstrued.
At the Conservative Party's spring conference in Blackpool on Saturday, Mr Johnson likened the Ukrainian’s fight to Brexit.
He said: "I know that it's the instinct of the people of this country, like the people of Ukraine, to choose freedom, every time. I can give you a couple of famous recent examples.
"When the British people voted for Brexit in such large, large numbers, I don't believe it was because they were remotely hostile to foreigners.

"It's because they wanted to be free to do things differently and for this country to be able to run itself."
Mr Johnson’s comments have been met with outrage, but Ms Malone thinks the backlash is unwarranted and has just been used as an excuse for the Prime Minister’s enemies to criticise him.
She said: “This is just confected outrage from Boris’ enemies. Okay, I will concede that using the b word (Brexit) was probably not wise but if people actually stopped to listen to his speech, it was actually a very good speech.
“What he actually said was that Ukrainians and brits had a shared instinct for freedom and the Brexit vote had expressed this vote for freedom.
“I think it wasn’t wise to use Brexit, but people are saying he compared Brexit to Ukrainian’s struggles with Putin, he did not do that. Listen to the speech!
“It’s an excuse for his enemies to jump up and about, they’ve attacked him over a million other things since he was elected. The claims are absurd, it’s totally absurd.”
