Tom Bower said the Prime Minister does not have a home of his own

Author of Boris Johnson's biography, Tom Bower has slammed the Prime Minister's wife as being one of the reasons for his downfall

When probed by GB News Presenter Dan Wootton on Carrie's influence, Mr Bower said the only reason Boris is staying at No.10 is because of her.

Discussing the Prime Minister's decision to remain at No 10 until a new leader is elected, Mr Bower told GB News: "The problem is he hasn't got a home to go to, it was the same problem when he was foreign minister, he hung around in Carlton Garden's for three weeks.

"That's the reason he is sticking around to have this party in Chequers".

Mr Johnson stepped down as Conservative leader, making the announcement outside No.10 on Thursday afternoon.

More than 50 politicians filed their resignations in the last few days, including former Chancellor Rishi Sunak and ex-Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

The author emphasised his sorrow for the Prime Minister stating how he is "in search of love" brandishing Carrie as "needy".

He stated: "When historians come to look at why Boris failed, and he did fail, because he came in in 2019, with such promise and such hopes of so many people, I think it will be his disfunction of his family life and home life, where Carrie for example insisted that they had to have Wilfred in bed with them as a baby, with Boris changing nappies during the night".

Continuing he said how Carrie's approach was "ridiculous" stating it was no way of life for a Prime Minister.

Outlining Boris' lack of support from his wife who supposedly splashed out £840 for a roll of Lulu Lytle wallpaper for their Downing Street family flat, Mr Bower said how Boris is "a man who really is alone, and he needed someone who is able, and the problem with Carrie is she's not stable, she's very much all about her, and i think this has been the problem".

Mr Bower added how Carrie failed to be a supportive wife for her husband, saying: "worse he didn't have anybody like a solid wife to say these are your mistakes".

Mr Johnson is the third Conservative Prime Minister to succumb to pressure from Tory infighting in the space of six years.

His resignation announcement follows a string of resignations which plagued the Government over recent days.

Senior government ministers quit their positions following the handling of allegations of misconduct against MP Chris Pincher.
