Armed police remain at Leeds caravan park after 'firearms incident'

A firearms operation is currently under way at a caravan park in Bramhope, West Yorkshire, police announced this morning.

At 9:12, West Yorkshire Police released the following statement: "A firearms operation is currently ongoing at St Helena’s Caravan Park, in Bramhope, Leeds.

"Emergency services at are the scene working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."

An eye-witness said there are two ambulances and two fire engines at the scene.

“There's a chemical team, a breathing apparatus team," the onlooker told the Wharfedale Observer.

"A police car has just shown up - there's no army, no bomb squad, no weapons.

"The crews for fire are just sat in their vehicles. There's almost nobody here."

Emergency services are trying to bring the incident that was reported late yesterday evening to a close.

Last night, The Royal Logistics Corp bomb disposal officers were called to the caravan park that is situated next to a busy airport.

The Sun reported that around 15 heavily-armed officers surrounded a caravan.

Public sightings of helicopters hovering over the Horsforth and Leeds-Bradford Airport areas have also been reported.

And, according to flight tracking website Flightradar 24, a National Police Air Service aircraft took off from Doncaster Airport and has been circling the site for a number of hours.
