The Apple Store in Leidseplein is surrounded by Amsterdam Police

Authorities in Amsterdam are apprehending a hostage-taker in an Apple store in the city.

Dutch media outlet, RTL Nieuws, are speculating that the hostage-taker is an armed robber.

In footage taken from scene, a man is seen holding another man with what appears to be a gun.

The store in Leidseplein is being attended by Dutch police.

In a tweet, the Amsterdam Police said: "Due to a report at a shop on Leidseplein, police are now deployed there. More information will follow via this Twitter channel."

Dutch journalist WouterLaumans tweeted: "The Apple store Leidseplein hostage situation is still ongoing. Police officer on the ribbon talks about 'possible explosion hazard'."
