The police care too little about the demographics of the grooming gang victims, and too much about the demographics of those committing the crimes

How many vulnerable young, mostly white working-class girls have to be raped and abused before the police crack down on grooming gangs?

If the police went after grooming gangs as diligently as they went after people who weren’t obeying Covid laws, then I suspect thousands of vulnerable girls wouldn’t have has their lives ruined by, predominantly, British Pakistani men.

When a terminally-ill man in Worcestershire flashed his backside at a police speed camera, within 20 minutes there were six officers round at his house and he was dragged off into custody.

That’s a bit of a contrast to what happened in Rotherham, where South Yorkshire Police received loads of reports of grooming gangs operating in the area and they ignored them, didn’t record the crimes properly and ultimately allowed 1,400 children to be abused between 1997 and 2013.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct found eight officers had a case to answer for misconduct and six for gross misconduct, but none have been sacked.

Dozens more officers have been cleared of wrongdoing.

Rotherham, Rochdale, Keithley, Hull, Manchester, Cambridge, Telford, Aylesbury… the list goes on.

Over and over again children are just hung out to dry by our authorities.

They’re raped, tortured, abused…they fall pregnant, they’re plied with drink and drugs… they have the windows on their parents' houses smashed if they speak out, petrol poured through the letterbox.

They’re not a priority. Well, let me rephrase that, in my opinion they’re not as much of a priority as not offending the local Muslim population.

Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of white sex offenders, but when it comes to grooming gangs the figures and the names are there for all to see. They’re predominantly British Pakistani or South Asian men.

Many of them get minuscule sentences, sometimes just a couple of years, they get taxpayer-funded legal defences to fight deportation, they’re allowed back into the very same communities they terrorised for years, they’re allowed to work as things like delivery drivers, they might even be given a new identity.

It’s all about their rights isn’t it? It’s all about them. But what about the victims?

This week Greater Manchester Police apologised and gave substantial damages to three victims of the Rochdale grooming gang.

Well there were 47 girls abused by that gang in Rochdale. Where’s the apology for the other 44? Where’s their compensation?

They were abused until 2012 – so it’s taken 10 years for the police to say sorry, allowing various police officers responsible to retire on a lovely pension and without any accountability.

I don’t think the police are really sorry, do you? I don’t think they care. I think if it was posh, middle class white girls being abused then they’d be all over it.

I think the police care too little about the demographics of the grooming gang victims, and too much about the demographics of those committing the crimes.
